Turtle Walk...

Thursday night was our turtle walk which started at 9:00pm. For 3 months out of the year the nature center in Boca Raton does a night time turtle walk. This is where you watch the female turtles lay their eggs on shore. Everyone met at Gumbo Limbo to sign in and get briefed with the latest numbers of nests for the year so far. The chart shows us that the Loggerhead Turtles have the biggest numbers every year and that their numbers are declining rapidly. The Leatherbacks are making a grand come back with 29 so far, more than their usual 8 to 12. The Green turtles are in at 12. The Loggerheads are in at 212 down from the usual 700 to 500.

This is the turtle that we saw. She was quite large and very much aware of every ones presence. She would stop when there was too much noise and felt too many people moving about. The kids that were there did not do what they were told and of course you wonder what the parents are doing besides ignoring them. If my kids were up there and not doing what they were told I would be knocking some heads together... lolol

The rest of our weekend has been good. Wine tasting, swimming in the pool, consignment store hopping, auctions, dinner, ice cream, gym. Ect... ect... And I will post a picture of our finished town home with new roof and painted fence tomorrow.
